Custom Jewelry - We can fabricate, cast or YOU can design jewelry online.

We completely understand that you want jewelry to reflect YOUR style.

We want to do what ever we can to deliver jewelry that is customized just for you.

Chimera Design has three ways to accomplish that goal - they vary from the oldest method to a state of the art online design app that puts you in total control of all the elements of your jewelry.

1. Fabrication - this is the oldest form of jewelry creation. Fabrication involves the cutting, bending, and shaping of metal. Once the metal is in the shape we want it, then diamonds and gemstones can be added if they are desired.

Here is a short video about fabrication:

Julie does most of the fabrication in our store/shop. Examples of her work can be seen on our website at these pages: Chimera Design Silver and Chimera Design Mokume Gane.

2. Lost Wax Casting - carving a piece of jewelry in wax and then casting it in some form of precious metal - sterling, gold, or platinum is another way to create jewelry. Here is a quick video about this method of making jewelry:

Our friend Jere Keyes works with Cliff on creating most of the jewelry we make using the lost wax method. These days we usually start with a CAD/CAM design and then carve the wax based on the CAD images.

You can find samples of the lost wax method here: Chimera Design CAD/CAM

3. You can now design jewelry online at our Chimera Design Showcase. The app allows you to design jewelry with THOUSANDS of choices from your phone, tablet, or desktop. You can choose the metal you want (sterling silver, white, yellow or rose gold, or even platinum) - in addition you can choose the size and shape of diamonds and/or gemstones you use. Every choice you make is reflected in the estimated price - so you will know instantly how much of a price difference there is between 10kt and 14kt gold. You can even choose different clarity and color grades for any diamonds.

TWO NOTES: First, this app does work on phones, but it is a big app with LOTS of choices so it will go faster on a laptop or desktop.

Secondly - designing jewelry on the Chimera Showcase does NOT mean you are buying anything. In fact, you CANNOT buy jewelry directly from the app. If you want, you can design all kinds of jewelry with no obligation what so ever. However, if you do end up with something you would like to purchase and the estimated price works for your budget, hit the "Add To Quote" button and Cliff will be in touch with you shortly to give you an accurate quote. The prices on the app are estimates and are usually very accurate - but Cliff will contact you with an exact quote.

Here is an example of 5 different ring variations created using the Chimera Showcase app. As you can see there are a variety of metals and gemstone shapes and sizes. Try it for yourself - you will have a great time and you just might create the PERFECT piece of jewelry for yourself.

At Chimera Design - we want you to have unique jewelry that reflects who you are - as you just learned, there are several ways to make that happen.

Two mokume gane rings from one piece of metal.

One of Julie's most romantic creations are when she
takes one piece of metal and creates two rings.
This set was made for Curtis and Christen.
We used three diamonds that were passed down in the family
and combines them with Curtis & Christen's birthstones.

Curtis wanted a Mokume band with no gems.

Christen was happy to wear all the bling!

In the video/slide show below there are pictures explaining
the process of making two rings from one piece of metal.
That part starts at 1:38.

Matching Mokume Bands from one piece of metal.

Jose was searching the net for a special ring for Karina.
He found us all the way from Texas.
They liked the idea of Julie making a set of rings from one piece of metal.

Jose wanted his Mokume ring served Straight Up with no stones.
For Karina, we decided to use lab created emeralds and alexandrite.
As they change from red/purple under man made light to green/blue in natural light, the alexandrite provide a nice mix of color to compliment the emerald green.

Whoo-hooo - they loved them

We just heard from Jose:
"Karina and I have been married for almost a year now. We still love our rings. We thought you might enjoy some pictures of the rings."

YES - WE DO ENJOY THESE PICTURES!

Thank you Jose and Karina.
Best of Luck to you.

Learn About Making Jewelry: Jewelry Fabrication

Informed shoppers are the best kind. We love to share what we
do with the people who come in to Chimera Design.

This is the first of two videos we hope will explain a little bit
about how jewelry is made. In simple terms, in can be fabricated from
the metal or it can be cast from a wax that is carved by hand
or from a CAD/CAM system.

This video explains fabrication with some examples:

More ideas for family jewelry for mothers and grandmothers.

The Bubbles ring can be made in sterling silver or white or yellow gold.
It can be made with many stones - the example above has nine.
All the gems are set it bezels - very secure.

This "spinner" ring is made from hammered sterling (it could be in gold or white gold).
The center part - the 4mm ring with the gems set in it - actually moves and spins inside the larger, wider band. This example has a total of 7 gems, but they could be spaced for fewer or more gems.

A pendant like this could be used for a family pendant -
look at all the room for children and grand children!

Julie has made a lot of pendants celebrating children and grand children.
She can make them round or even like this stylized heart shape above.
This example has 7 gems, but there is room for more.
Family pendants can be made in sterling or in gold or white gold.

We would be happy to quote you a price, we just need information:
1. What metal do you want it made from?
2. What gemstones do we need? (What months was everyone born in?)
3. Ring size - if you want a ring.

Hand carved cherry blossom ring with .50 ct VS2 H diamond.

Our friend Andy is a great wax carver, so we asked him to carve a
wax for us with cherry blossoms. He did and then cast it in
14kt X1 white gold (X1 never needs rhodium plating to stay white).

Cliff found an almost perfectly square .50 ct VS2 H princess
cut diamond for the ring. (4.34x4.40mm).

Julie set the diamond is a very nice 14kt rose gold head that protects
all four corners of the diamond very well.

We only made one - $3,250.00.

One of a kind "bubble" cut amethyst pendant in sterling.

We brought this terrific amethyst home from a huge gem show a few years ago.
Julie just felt inspired to make a pendant for it -
The amethyst is 15x29mm and the bubbles were  cut into the
back side of the gem.

A closer look reveals several melee diamonds that Julie
flush set into the sterling silver to accent this beauty.
$799.00

Shield cut diamond earrings. .90 ctw - $995.00

We like to do things a little differently here.
You normally see shield cut diamonds used to accent
square cut stones in rings.

.90 ctw shield cut diamonds in 14kt lever back earrings.

In fact, we salvaged this pair from an Estate ring not too long ago.
Julie got creative and modified a setting for a triangle and suspended them
beneath these 14kt white gold lever backs.
This allows these diamonds to move and sparkle.
.90 ctw for $995.00.

THESE EARRINGS HAVE BEEN SOLD.

Sterling silver Mokume Gane earrings.

Julie just made a couple pair of these Mokume earrings.

$69 to $89.

Two Mokume Gane rings in sterling silver.

This ring above has a nice piece of rhodochrosite in a mokume bezel
on a freeform sterling ring. All for $169.00

Julie had some fun with a couple of beautiful pearls. She used
Mokume to set the pearls in the sterling ring she fabricated.
$220.00

Mokume and sterling silver pin with rose gold.

Pictures do not do justice to this pin. Julie used some 5mm wide sterling silver stock to create this pin, then accented it with a Mokume flower and two rose gold beads.
It is roughly 30mm x 30mm. $210.00.

Pink and watermelon tourmaline in sterling rings.

The pink tourmaline in the ring above is 7x8mm. Julie accented
the sterling silver with one rose gold tip! $230.00

Watermelon tourmaline (so called because of the green, white, and reddish bands of color)
makes a great statement in sterling. This ring is set with an emerald cut piece 3.5x6.5mm.
$169.00 SOLD
